I was shocked and horrified after happily wearing glasses for more than thirty years to be told in December 2020 that it would be a strong recommendation to have my cataracts replaced as I had narrowing angles which could suddenly cause extreme pain and an emergency operation. I then met Mr Kopsachilis, a calm man of few words, but those he said were almost unbelievable, "How would you like to have 20/20 vision and not wear glasses again?"

It was true. The operation was conducted in an hour with no pain and I walked out of the surgery with totally in focus vision having had both cataracts replaced simultaneously. The staff were very friendly and efficient and used to dealing with someone who was extremely terrified. Have no fear, it is the idea that someone will operate on your eyes that causes the anxiety not the operation itself or anything thereafter.

As an artist I treasure my eyesight and the joy of not being restricted to wearing glasses has been a transformation for me, not least wearing a mask without misting up and while walking in the rain to not have to wear a wide brimmed hat is a joy.

I say to anyone who is concerned, don't be, get it done by this brilliant man and your life will be enriched beyond measure!

As I am in my mid seventies I had expected my eyesight to deteriorate and having a mother who was blind considered myself to be fortunate to at least wear glasses which had given me perfect sight for over 30 years.

So after a routine examination at the end of December 2020 to be told I had narrowing angles which could have extreme detrimental effects on my eyesight was a big shock. I made an appointment at the New Hayesbank Surgery and met Mr Kopsachilis who calmly said he could carry out this operation in January 2021 and simultaneously replace both cataracts.

With great trepidation I agreed to have this done, but should not have feared. I have had not after effects other than perfect 20/20 vision and this had transformed my life. The whole process was very efficiently done at Ashford and I can honestly recommend anyone who has concerns not to worry as I am an example of someone whose life has been enriched by this operation.

Thankfully there are people like Mr Kopsachilis who work tirelessly to improve people's lives.
