Patient Story

Martin's Story:

Over the many years I had become completely reliant on my glasses to see for all activities. More importantly my vision for driving was significantly impacted and night time driving was becoming increasingly difficult.

I have always been a keen golfer and enjoy other sports such as snooker and darts. My glasses were proving to hinder my love of sport as they were just not practical and often got in the way – I was constantly scratching them or breaking them costing me a fortune to keep replacing!

I was introduced to Kent Eye Centre from a friend who had previously had surgery with them, the feedback from my friend was nothing but positive and he was living a glasses free life without any problems with reading or driving (his ability to see the dart board was starting to put me to shame)!

I had the pleasure of meeting with Mr Kopsachilis who reviewed my eyes with thorough investigations; he explained the results of his investigations and provided full and clear details of what I would expect during and following the cataract surgery. Initially I was a little anxious of the idea of someone operating on my eyes however, following my consultation with Mr Kopsachilis I was reassured and his calming manner helped me feel relaxed for the upcoming procedure.

On the day of my procedure I was extremely impressed by the service I received from all the staff members including the reception team and nurses. I’m not a fan of hospitals but luckily, Kent Eye Centre didn’t have the typical hospital vibe, it was far more personal, this helped me feel more at ease.

I chose to have both eyes operated on at the same time, this allowed for the quickest recovery time and for me to adapt to the new prescription and lenses to ensure I could be back to normal activities in the most efficient way.
The procedure itself took around 15minutes per eye – which seems to shock most people! It was seamless and I could not fault Mr Kopsachilis or the team in anyway. When it came to being discharged the aftercare was explained in a clear and concise manner.

The following day I noticed a significant improvement within my vision, I was extremely surprised to see such improvements in such a short space of time. I was able to see to the bottom of my garden and read general post without any need for glasses! Over the next 2-7 days the improvements to my vision continued and although I was taking it easy, I was enjoying the new vision I had been given! The aftercare was simple and easy to fit into my day to day activities.

The surgery has made a huge difference to my life and I am now completely glasses free for all activities. I feel confident to drive at any time of the day/night and no longer get frustrated by my glasses – especially when babysitting the grandchildren!

I would highly recommend cataract surgery especially surgery with Mr Kopsachilis at Kent Eye Centre!
