Mr Shahid is a Consultant Ophthalmologist & Vitreoretinal Surgeon at East Kent University Hospital NHS Trust and the Clinical Lead for the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme in Kent & Medway. He specialises in all forms of retinal surgery including retinal detachment repairs, diabetic retinopathy, vitreous haemorrhage, membrane peels, macular holes, secondary intraocular lens implants, vitreous floaters, as well as complex cataract surgery
 
He obtained his medical degree from the University of Bristol in 2010, following which he completed his foundation training in South Thames Foundation School. He has a Masters in Clinical Ophthalmology from University College London. He completed his Ophthalmology training in the popular North London Deanery culminating in an 18-month fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital where he was trained by experts within the field of surgical retina. He has extensive emergency Ophthalmology experience having worked as a locum consultant in the Accident & Emergency department of Moorfields Eye Hospital from 2019-2020.
 
He has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals including Retina, Eye, British Medical Journal, Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery and has presented in a number of national and international conferences in U.K and Europe.
